چکیده

A field trial was conducted in Gontra village under Chakdaha block of Nadia district, West Bengal during rainy (kharif) season 2020 to assess arsenic (As) accumulation different plant parts aromatic rice cultivars. The laid out Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 15 treatments (aromatic cultivars) and three replications. Results revealed that the cultivar ‘Poreiton’ (collected from Manipur) showed maximum grain (0.93 mg/kg) husk (1.68 mg/kg); being statistically at par cultivars ‘Wairi-Chakhao’ (0.87 1.55 mg/kg husk, respectively) ‘'Lalbadshabhog’ (0.74 1.52 respectively). Least found ‘Tulaipanji’ (0.17 0.71 Hence, be safe for human consumption, as As content within limit per WHO’s guideline (maximum 0.2 white rice). But other need some mitigation strategies respect water nutrient management so is kept limit.

Water management affects arsenic and cadmium accumulation in different rice cultivars.

Paddy rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a staple food and one of the major sources of dietary arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) in Asia. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of four water management regimes (aerobic, intermittent irrigation, conventional irrigation and flooding) on As and Cd accumulation in seven major rice cultivars grown in Zhejiang province, east China. With incre...

Volatile profiles of aromatic and non-aromatic rice cultivars using SPME/GC–MS

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is enjoyed by many people as a staple food because of its flavour and texture. Some cultivars, like scented rice, are preferred over others due to their distinctive aroma and flavour. The volatile profile of rice has been explored by other investigators, some of whom have also determined a corresponding aroma using GC/olfactometry. However, little research has been done t...

Evaluation of physiological and molecular responses of two rice cultivars to arsenic toxicity

Arsenic (As) toxicity can be a hazardous threat to sustainable agriculture and human health. In order to investigate the effect of As (0, 25 and 50 µM) on growth, physiological traits and expression of As and Fe transporters in Tarom hashemi and Fajr rice cultivars, a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design was conducted in 2020 in greenhouse conditions at Ayatollah Amoli B...

Arsenic concentrations in local aromatic and high-yielding hybrid rice cultivars and the potential health risk: a study in an arsenic hotspot

The presence of high levels of arsenic (As) in rice fields has negative effects on the health of those consuming rice as their subsistence food. This study determined the variation in total As concentration in local aromatic rice (LAR) (kalijira) and two high-yielding varieties (HYVs) (BRRI dhan 32 and BRRI dhan 28) grown in paddy fields in Matlab, Bangladesh, an As hotspot with elevated As lev...

Accumulation of Arsenic in Rice Plant from Arsenic Contaminated Irrigation Water and Effect on Nutrient Content

For Bangladesh, the requirement for food is very high due to its huge population. To achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production, the HYV rice varieties are widely produced in Bangladesh, particularly in the dry season, and this requires a large volume of groundwater irrigation. Groundwater of many areas of our country is severely contaminated with arsenic. So, there is a possibility of a...
